About My Faith in THE Faith... Denominations

Have you ever wondered why there are so many churches?

I would like you to know that there is a devil and he is crafty.  There are so many churches teaching so many different things because he wants you to be confused and lost.

It was not enough to have people choose between the different world religions.  He wanted the truth so elusive to seekers that he deceived men into thinking that they could add and subtract (pick and choose) when it came to how they were to serve Christ even after they realized He was the ONLY way.

Thus, was born the plethora of denominations that profess Christ today—different churches teaching different things while professing to be in obedience to the same Christ.

  • Some teach infant baptism; while others teach against it.
  • Some teach ‘sinners prayers’ or ‘asking the LORD into your heart’; while others preach against it.
  • Some speak of ‘catching the Holy Ghost’ or ‘speaking in tongues' for salvation while others preach against it.

Too confusing, right?

I agree!

I was confused for years; sidetracked by small side streets that led--ever so subtly—off the correct path.

The good news is that our Creator does not want us confused as He is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33), He wants unity (John 17-particularly v. 11, 20-21), and He doesn't want any to be lost (2 Peter 3:9-10).

This is Why He Left Us His Word--The Bible

If all churches would use, and hold in high esteem, this same book, we would not be confused.

We would be unified.

We would have a clear understanding on what we must do to receive salvation.

We would be obedient.

The bible is THE word of God and it holds the words that teach of salvation.  It contains the truth that will set us free (John 8:32). Its truths will judge us in the end (John 12:48).

Sadly, and to their destruction, many people have come up with different creeds, extra manuals, and all types of other added traditions. They have begun to rely on their dreams, talents, and emotions to guide them as they feel that the word of the LORD is not sufficient for life and worship today.

The bible tells us that, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

Let's dissect the above scripture.

If the LORD, our Creator, inspired (breathed life into) the scriptures and states that they can make men perfect (mature) and equip them for ALL good works, we would have to, therefore, conclude that religious teachings found outside of the bible—however well-meaning-- are NOT pleasing to Him.

The bible also tells us that He “…hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness…” (2Peter 1:3).

We shouldn't need-- and therefore should reject--anything else.

The Lord Knows My Heart

I know many say, “Well, the LORD knows my heart,” to justify the non-scriptural acts they commit—both in worship and in daily life.  However, time and time again, we are told that our love for Christ will be shown by our obedience to the commandments that He has left us.

v If ye love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15)

v  He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21)

v  If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. (John 15:10)

v  Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. (2 John 9)

As you can see from the above scriptures, Jesus is very serious about us being obedient to His teachings.  Obedience is the ONLY way we can show our love for Him.

Yes! The LORD knows all hearts.  He knows that an honest heart is an obedient heart.

The faith that saves is the faith that obeys.

Therefore, I urge you, refuse to be sidetracked.

Join me as we take a brief look at what the bible actually teaches when it comes to salvation.
