Phonics vs Whole Language

by April Adams

I wholeheartedly agree!

As an instructor at a vo-tech college, I'm mortified at the amount of adult students that struggle to read.

I believe that this is just part of our government trying to control education. Instead of increasing the learning skills of our youth, we seem to be "dumbing down" education by teaching students word association.

Great article!

Phonics vs Whole Language

Thanks April,

There really are quite a few problems with the current workings of our educational system and it’s unfortunate how many adult learners get to college only to be enrolled in the remedial courses that don't give them the college credit they are seeking.

Many of these students are fresh out of high school and, in some cases, have graduated at the top of their class.

I'm not sure how much the government has to do with it, however, I do believe that no one can keep anyone else’s child/children uneducated if that child’s parent doesn’t want them to.

Parents have to advocate for their children.

That is why my goal with AfterschoolHomeschool.com is to get parents encouraged and confident enough to get involved with what is going on in the classroom.

Even more, I want to challenge them to go to greater lengths and take charge of homework time.

That is the only way they can be that push that ensures the success of their child/children.

Parents taking more control over their children's education is where the healing starts.

I know parents, grandparents, caregivers, and others will benefit from the Afterschool Homeschool approach.

I'm so glad you liked the article. There is more to come.

I have some goals for future additions on this site. However, if there's anything that you like to see on the site just head on over to that ‘Contact Us’ form and let me know.

I'm always willing to explore different options for Afterschool Homeschool parents as well as full-time home school parents.

Thanks so much.
